Kuwait Hits 5 Million Population Mark

Kuwait’s population has officially crossed the 5 million mark, reaching 5.098 million by mid-2025, according to the Public Authority for Civil Information. Out of this, 30% are Kuwaiti citizens, totaling around 1.55 million. The remaining 70%—or 3.547 million—are expatriates.

The data shows that 17% of the population is under 15 years old, 80% are between 15 and 64, and only 3% are over 65. Men make up 61% of the total population, with 3.09 million males compared to 2 million females. The largest age group is between 35 and 39 years, accounting for 13% of the population.

When it comes to nationality, Indians form the largest expatriate group, with 1.036 million people or 29% of the total. Egyptians follow with 661,000 people, representing 19%.

Most people in Kuwait live in private households—about 4.05 million—while around 1.04 million live in shared or collective housing.

Workforce and Employment
Kuwait’s labor market includes 2.283 million employed individuals. Of these, 520,000 work in the government sector, and 1.76 million work in the private sector. Workers make up 45% of the total population.

Among government employees, Kuwaitis dominate with 75.5%, followed by  Indians and Egyptians . In the private sector, Indian workers lead with 31.2%, followed by Egyptians at 24.8%. Kuwaiti nationals form only 3.8% of the private sector workforce.

Kuwaiti men have a labor participation rate of 32%. For Kuwaiti women, 31% are employed, while the rest are outside the workforce. Still, women make up half of the Kuwaiti workforce.

Domestic Workers and Marital Status
The domestic labor market in Kuwait is mostly made up of 10 nationalities, totaling around 822,000 workers. Women account for 58.2% of this group. Domestic workers make up 26% of Kuwait’s total workforce and 16% of the population. Indians again lead this category with 41.3%, followed by Filipinos and Sri Lankans.

In terms of marital status, about 2.3 million people are married, while 1.7 million are unmarried. The number of divorced individuals stands at around 125,000, with female Kuwaiti citizens making up twice the number of divorcees compared to expat women.
