Kuwait Plans 3-Month Family Visit Visas, Removes Degree and Airline Conditions

Kuwait Tour

In an exclusive news with the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef, the local Arabic daily Al Seyassah reported several key reforms aimed at enhancing Kuwait’s position as a regional hub for tourism and commerce. These reforms include the removal of the restriction requiring travellers to fly only on Kuwaiti airlines, the cancellation of the university degree requirement, and the introduction of a three-month family visit visa. According to the report, some of these measures have already been implemented, while others — including the extended visa period — will be introduced soon.

Quoting Minister, Al Seyassah Daily reported that Kuwait is working on building a large airport and aims to bring back airlines that previously exited the local market. "We want to market Kuwait as a whole," the daily reported quoting him as saying, adding that the requirement for local airline carriers has been canceled to allow foreign airlines more flexibility. "Airlines must market themselves; the State is not their marketer," he added.

As part of the reforms on family visit visas, the kinship requirement has been expanded to the fourth degree. Additionally, starting Tuesday, the university degree requirement for visit visa has been canceled.

Regarding visit visa fees, the daily reported that the proposed fee structure will be submitted to the Council of Ministers for approval.

Following these decisions, Middle East Airlines is now allowed to carry all passengers holding a Kuwaiti family visit visa — a role previously limited to Kuwaiti carriers — under new directives from immigration and civil aviation authorities, the report added.
