New Traffic License Validity Periods Announced in Kuwait

The Official Gazette (Kuwait Today) has published a decision from the Ministry of Interior regarding updates to private driving license regulations. The newly issued Resolution No. 1257 of 2025 amends Clause 1 of Article 85 of Ministerial Resolution No. 81/76 related to the Executive Regulations of the Traffic Law.

According to the amendment, a Private License can now be used to drive private cars with no more than seven passengers, transport vehicles with a load capacity not exceeding two tons, as well as taxis and ambulances. The license validity has also been adjusted based on residency status.

For Kuwaiti citizens and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nationals, the license will be valid for 15 years. For expatriates, it will be valid for 5 years, while for illegal residents, it will be valid according to the validity of their identification card.

The Ministry stated that the Acting Undersecretary of Interior will oversee the implementation of this decision, which is effective immediately from the date of publication in the Official Gazette.
