The General Traffic Department reported a significant drop in traffic-related deaths, with 94 fatalities recorded during the first half of 2025 — a decrease of 49 compared to 143 deaths in the same period last year.

This decline is largely attributed to recent amendments to the traffic law and the adoption of smart traffic monitoring systems that help curb dangerous behavior on the roads. Speaking to Al-Jarida, Colonel Fahd Al-Essa, Director of the Traffic Awareness Department, highlighted that increased public compliance with the law has played a major role in improving road safety.

He also noted that the department continues its nationwide awareness campaigns, launched in cooperation with the General Department of Public Relations and civil society organizations. The campaign began with the implementation of the new traffic law on April 22 and specifically targets the youth to promote a culture of safe driving.

Al-Essa emphasized that traffic safety is a shared responsibility, calling on citizens and residents to remain committed to traffic laws to help save lives.
